La Ultra – The High is a 137 mile, non-stop, ultramarathon in the foothills of the Himalayas.

DSA is the North American respresentative for this race working with Dr. Rajat Chauhan in India. This simply means that we support this amazing race and will be glad to answer questions and give helpful guidance to runners participating in this event.

The High course runs along the highest motorable pass in the world, Khardung-La, 17,700 ft, down to the town of Leh, 11,000 ft, then up to the second highest point, Tang Lang La, 17,583 ft, finishing in the Morey Plains. The race begins in the village of Khardung-La at 14,000 ft.

In 2010, the inaugural running of the race, Molly Sheridan, DSA co-founder, was the first American woman to attempt the race. After completing 100 miles in 2010 she will be returning in 2011 to make her 2nd attempt to finish all 137 miles (222 kilometers).

sp-altolabAltoLab, the world’s most affordable altitude trainer, was successfully used for the 1st La Ultra – The High in 2010. Don’t be misled; AltoLab equips you for high altitude differently than normal exercise, especially if you live at sea level. AltoLab is not a tent; it’s a small re-breather used for minutes a day, beyond your regular training. AltoLab costs less than a room and air fare to the mountains. To prepare for the 17,800 ft-plus altitudes of La Ultra you should use AltoLab for at least two months prior to reaching the Himalayas. La Ultra-The High is the world’s most difficult race; let AltoLab help you finish it. See www.altolab-usa.com or call 480-993-0344 for more info.
